dc.description.abstractThe aim of this research was to analyze household food security level and its characteristics. Susenas data of 1999 from CBS become the source of this data. The results of this research were: 1) proportion of household food insecurity in Indonesia was 30,3%, found more in the rural than in the urban area. Proportion of household food security was only 12,2%; 2) the characteristics of household food insecurity were unfinished yunior high school level of the head of family and the wife; more than four total family member, working in agricultural sector and low energy-proteins consumption. The characteristics of household food security were the inverse of those characteristics above exception corn, cassava and starches (sagu) consumption. The implication is that the main programme to increase household food security done by increasing household income, especially agricultural household.en
