Designing Information System for Web-based of Bibliographic Control at National Library of Indonesia

Abstract

The responsibility of a national library is to collect, maintain, preserve the nation’s literature, in order to maintain a national bibliography and operates bibliography information centre. National library of Indonesia is currently using three different application system to process the deposited material of bibliographic data. Those application are not integrated , then it could be redudant data and can not be accesed easily by the users. As a consequence, an accurate data may not be obtained. Anticipating this condition, we need a new system to improve the old one. This research was conducted to design a information system that manage the bibliographic data of deposit material at the SubDirektorat Deposit, National Library of Indonesia. The system to be designed is the System Development Lifecycle (SDLC). The SDLC has six steps, but only the first four steps were used in this design. Those are: feasibility study, system investigation, system analysis, and system design. This research generated four tables which were connected each other and one table of the user. The output of this system is its abilities interfaces in order to fulfill the needs of information.

Salah satu perangkat penting agar pengawasan bibliografi dapat terselenggara dengan baik adalah dengan dilaksanakannya undang-undang deposit yang bertujuan untuk menjamin akses dari dokumen yang merupakan hasil karya budaya bangsa yang disimpan di Perpustakaan Nasional RI sehingga dapat dilestarikan. Undang-undang deposit adalah ketetapan menurut undang-undang yang mewajibkan penerbit untuk mendepositkan sejumlah eksemplar dari terbitannya ke perpustakaan nasional. Pelaksana maupun pengelola hasil dari pelaksanaan undang-undang deposit di Indonesia adalah Perpustakaan Nasional RI, sedangkan pelaksana langsung dari undang-undang deposit adalah Subdirektorat Deposit. Subdirektorat Deposit pada saat ini memanfaatkan tiga aplikasi sistem yang berbeda untuk melaksanakan tugasya dalam pemasukan data bibliografi. Latar belakang penyebab banyaknya aplikasi sistem yang digunakan oleh Subdirektorat Deposit dalam pemasukan data bibliografi ini adalah bahwa dengan mengandalkan salah satu sistem dari ketiga sistem yang ada, maka salah satu sistem tersebut tidak dapat memenuhi berbagai kebutuhan informasi pemustaka maupun internal Subdirektorat Deposit sebagai pengelola koleksi deposit. Mengantisipasi hal tersebut maka perlu adanya suatu sistem informasi yang terintegrasi.
