      Abstract
      Hydroxyapatite is a biomaterial that could be used for bone replacement. The synthesis of hydroxyapatite from seashell wastes of Anadara granosa has been investigated by wet and dry methods. The sintering of hydroxyapatite was done at 1250°C for two hours. The biomaterial formed was characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, and EDXA. The wet method showed a better result compare with the dry method. The XRD profiles showed uniformly crystals of hydroxyapatite. The XRD profiles showed uniformly crystals of hydroxyapatite. The FTIR spectra showed the existence of PO43- and OH- groups were the components of the hydroxyapatite. The morphology of hydroxyapatite viewed under SEM showed that the size of the particle was 0.52 μm. The EDXA analysis showed that the ratio of Ca / P by the wet and the dry methods was 1.64 and 1.84, respectively.
       
      Hidroksiapatit merupakan senyawa kalsium fosfat yang merupakan komponen utama dari tulang dan gigi yang mempunyai sifat dapat berikatan dengan tulang alami. Hidroksiapatit merupakan senyawa mineral dari kelompok mineral apatit dengan rumus kimia Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 dan mempunyai struktur heksagonal dengan parameter kisi a = 9.443 Ǻ dan c = 6.875Ǻ serta nisbah Ca/P sekitar 1.67. Kristal apatit banyak mengandung gugus karbon dalam bentuk karbonat. Pada struktur hidroksiapatit, karbon dapat menggantikan ion OH- membnetuk kristal apatit karbonat tipe A, dan bila menggantikan ion PO43- Sintesis serbuk hidroksiapatit telah dilakukan dengan berbagai sumber Ca dan P, diantaranya kalsium nitrat (Ca(NO membentuk kristal apatit karbonat tipe B.
