dc.description.abstractThe phenomenon of disparity areas have become commonplace in the development of an area for various reasons. Development of region in the province of West Sumatra by naked eye there is a disparity in the region indicated. The objectives of this research are 1) determine the amount of disparity in development between regions, 2) identify the sectors held by each district / city; 3) determine the level of development and regional characteristics; 4) analyze the factors that cause disparities in development among regions; 5) to formulate strategies to address the problem of regional development disparities. Analytical methods used are Williamsons Index, Theill Index, Location Quotient Index, Shift Share Analysis, Scalogram Method, Entropy Index, Physical Analysis, Klassen Typology, Factor Analysis, Multiple Regression, and SWOT analysis. The analysis showed there are gaps in the province of West Sumatra which occurs predominantly among areas within the territory of the border region. Dominant sector in the district are agriculture, while in urban areas is service sector. The main factor that caused the region is an indicator of economic inequality and population indicators. The strategies that can be used to overcome the inequality are in development of other sectors of the economy of the agricultural sector and the optimization of the center point of growth and service center region.en
