The growth response of catfish, Clarias batrachus L., fry was evaluated at 20, 24, 28, 32 degree Celcius and room temperature in relation to food consumtion at 0.0, 33.3, 66.7 and 100% maximum daily food consumption. With increasing temperature there was a large increase in the energy required to meet the defined growth variables. The growth rates increased with increasing temperature and achieved the highest growth as well as the largest scope for growth at about 29.50 degree celcius. The maintenance energy requirement was found to increase rapidly with increasing temperature and coused decreasing in scope for growth. At all temperatures the highest growth efficiency reaches maximum value at about two thirds (66.7 %) the maximum daily food consumptionen
