dc.description.abstractThe development of open source softwares is still going rapidly nowadays, including open source operating systems for desktop computer, netbook, tablet PC, and smartphone. The open source operating systems have considerable contribution to open source software. Linux is an open source operating system that continues to grow since 1991. The characteristics in general Linux are free, can be distributed freely, and free to make changes in it. Linux in its development is divided into several distributions. Each distribution is made as a specific goal so that the operating system can focus on running the desired functions, such as multimedia, networking, education, etc. The objective of of this research is to develop and evaluate the ILOS distribution for multimedia by providing multimedia of open source packages. ILOSmedia uses Ubuntu10.10 and Remastersys as a tool to remaster. ILOSmedia is developed by installing multimedia packages that have been obtained based on the results of questionnaires from 30 respondents from three communities, which are KPLI Bogor, Linux.com forums, and Kaskus.us forums. ILOSmedia also uses the Realtime kernel as kernal Mutimedia. ILOSmedia testing is performed by 11 students of Computer Science who are members of FOKERZ community. The testing process is performed by executing ILOSmedia via live-cd and filled in a questionnaire. The test result shows that ILOSmedia has hardware compatibility on notebook and PC with good performance. As much as 72.727% of respondents believe that the size of the installer ILOSmedia of 1.34 GB and a minimum 10GB hard drive is normal. ILOSmedia has multimedia packages complete with the percentage completeness according to respondents is 45.455% are very complete and 54.545% are complete. Boot speed ILOSmedia have an average of 28.87 seconds and 90.91% of respondents consider that ILOSmedia have a desktop environment that is easy navigationen
