Freshwater prawn is a crustacean member which has an important role in maintaining the balance of freshwater ecosystem. The study of freshwater prawn was conducted in Lake Kerinci, Jambi Province. The aim of this research was to study the diversity of the freshwater prawn in the Lake Kerinci. The sampling was conducted at 10 stations around the lake. Each station was sampled for 60 minutes, with a length of 10 meter along the edge of the lake. There were 3 species of freshwater prawn found in the Lake Kerinci, i.e., Macrobrachium lanchesteri (289 specimen), M. pilimanus (39 specimens), and M. sintangense (10 specimens). The highest diversity index from the 10 observed stations was 0.96 and the lowest was 0. The highest diversity index was found in varied habitat, while the lowest diversity index was found in one type habitat. Macrobrachium lanchesteri, the dominant species, was mainly found in slow water current, open area, and area occupied with water plants. Macrobracium pilimanus was found in rocky habitat with fast water current, while M. sintangense was found in shallow muddy water with slow water current and sandy substrate.en
