Intervensi Sayur dan Buah Pembawa Vitamin C dan Vitamin E Meningkatkan Sistem Imun Populasi Buruh Pabrik di Bogor

It had been reported previously that industrial workers in Bogor area consumed street foods regularly and this food habit correlated with high plasma MDA, lower immune system and plasma vitamin C and vitamin E. Damaged of the immune system by free mdicals could be prevented by supplementation of vegetable and fruit that contain antioxidant nutrients such as vitamin C and viiumin E. The subjects of this study were industrial labors from industries located in Bogor. They were divided into four groups, industry Z(n=16), industry ZZ (n=20), industry ZZZ(n=24), industry N(n=20). Subjects weregiven local fruits and vegetables that met Vitamin C and E daily requirements, everyday each afternoon for 30 days. The effects of vegetables and fruit containing vitamin C dan vitamin E euppkmentation on the immune response, were measured by analyzing their white blood cell count, lymphocyte proliferation response and natural killer (NK) cell cytotoxic activity. Simulation index (SZ) of the cell proliferation cultured with pokeweed mitogen (PWM) increased from 4.63 to 5.31, while that with concanavalin A(Con A) increased from 5.48 to 14.06 in male subjects. The total average NK lyeing activity increased from 33.10% to 39.55% when the cells were cultured with target cancer cell line K562. The results of this rewwch show that supplementation of vitamin C and vitamin E from vegetables and fruits enhanced the lymphocyte proliferation and natural killer cell cytotoxic activity.
