Isolation and Selection of Endomycorrhizae Fungi and the Effect on Sorghum Growth and Yield
Abstract
The main problem of phosphorus (P) manure added in the most soil in Indonesia is the low of mobility. Absorption of P in soil is very high, so the plant would suffer because of P deficiency. Recently, the farmers have problem with the cost and supply of P manure. Many efforts have been done, for instance by using biological manure with inoculation of Endomycorrhizae fungi. The Endomycorrhizae fungi has been reported that it could enhance the plant in uptaking phosphorus in the host. The aim of this research is to isolate and select the Endomycorrhizae fungi from the transmigration area Kuamang Kuning, Kabupaten Muara Bungo, Propinsi Jambi and its effect on sorghum growth and yield. This research has been done in Greenhouse of Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB. Isolation, Endomycorrhizae isolate purifYing, and measurement of several parameters were conducted in Soil Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB. This research has been carried out since Mei 2000 until June 2001.
