Heavy metal contamination has degraded water quality and limited access to clean water. Cellulose acetate (CA) filtration membranes derived from sugarcane bagasse offer a promising alternative for water treatment, and their performance can be further enhanced by incorporating functional additives such as zinc oxide (ZnO) and activated carbon. This study investigated how additive type and concentration affect the characteristics and adsorption performance of sugarcane bagasse-derived CA membranes in removing Pb and Cu from water. We synthesized cellulose acetate from delignified and bleached sugarcane bagasse pulp through acetylation and fabricated themembranes using N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as the solvent. ZnO and activated carbon were incorporated as additives at concentrations of 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75%, and 1%. The results showed that the addition of additives significantly affected the surface morphology, pore characteristics, water flux, and heavy metal adsorption of CA membranes. The membrane containing 0.50% ZnO achieved the highest water flux of 476.19 ± 23.88 L·m?²·h?¹, with Pb and Cu rejection coefficients of 78.68 ± 2.08% and 39.10 ± 1.15%.
