      Abstract

Tofu wastewater contains high levels of organic pollutants such as TSS and COD, necessitating eco-friendly biocoagulant alternatives. This study aims to analyze the initial wastewater characteristics and the effectiveness of rain tree seeds, moringa seeds, and their combination as biocoagulants. The methods involved wastewater sampling, powder preparation, jar test experiments with three treatment variations, and FTIR analysis. The results showed highly polluted initial characteristics, with TSS at 4,396 mg/L and COD at 6,720 mg/L. The combination treatment (50%:50%) proved most effective, reducing TSS to 833 mg/L (81% effectiveness) and COD to 1,173 mg/L (82.5% effectiveness), supported by the synergy of amide functional groups from cationic proteins. This combination shows potential for primary treatment, though further processing stages are required to comply with environmental quality standards.
