An e-portfolio can support the documentation and monitoring of medical student development, must be aligned with lecturer workflows. This study aimed to design and evaluate the usability of an e-portfolio system prototype for preclinical medical student at the Faculty of Medicine, IPB University, using the Five Planes Framework. The study began with interviews, the usability evaluation employed a qualitative-dominant mixed methods approach through observation and Retrospective Think Aloud (RTA), completion rate, average time on task, and the System Usability Scale (SUS). The study produced a high-fidelity prototype for logbook validation, rubric-based assessment, feedback, score recapitulation, and development monitoring. The evaluation indicated the need for improvements in information presentation, management flexibility, data access and filtering, and feedback according to user roles. After the improvements, observation and RTA showed that the main barriers were reduced, supported by a 100% completion rate and SUS scores ranging from 83.75 to 89.17. These results provide a descriptive indication of improved prototype usability in the tested scenarios.
