      Abstract

This study aimed to synthesize copper(II) oxide (CuO) nanoparticles through a green synthesis approach using Averrhoa bilimbi L. leaf extract, investigate their crystal structure and optical properties, and evaluate their photocatalytic activity toward indigo carmine under visible-light irradiation. The synthesis was carried out using CuSO4 solution as the copper precursor, NaOH as the hydroxide source, and Averrhoa bilimbi L. leaf extract as a biological component involved in material formation. The synthesized material was characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and UV-Visible spectroscopy. The XRD results indicated the formation of crystalline CuO corresponding to a monoclinic tenorite structure. During photocatalytic testing, the absorbance of indigo carmine decreased from 0.4680 to 0.4272 after 90 min of irradiation, corresponding to a maximum photodegradation efficiency of 8.72%. Kinetic analysis showed a tendency to follow a pseudo-first-order model, with an apparent rate constant of approximately 1.12×10-3/min and R2 value of 0.8769.
