      Abstract

The tiger catfish Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum is a freshwater fish of high economic value, but its aquaculture is hampered by high levels of cannibalism during the fry stage. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of LED light color on the growth and cannibalism of tiger catfish fry. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments: control (K), white light (CP), red light (CM), blue light (CB), and green light (CH), each with three replicates. Seeds measuring ±4 cm were grown for 40 days under a photoperiod of 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. The results showed that white LEDs produced the best growth, with an absolute weight gain of 7.83 ± 0.94 g, an absolute length of 5.11 ± 0.18 cm, a specific growth rate of 5.63 ± 0.28%, a cannibalism index of 17.5 ± 5.4%, and a survival rate of 75.42 ± 5.64%. Water quality parameters remain within a range suitable for rearing tiger catfish fry, although some values fall outside certain reference ranges. The white LED light treatment (CP) yielded the highest numerical values and thus demonstrated the best overall performance compared to the other treatments.
