      Abstract

The tiger catfish Pseudoplatysoma fasciatum is a carnivorous ornamental fish with high economic value with increasing export demand. Its seed cultivation is hampered by uneven growth and low survival. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of optimal live feeds in tiger catfish seed nursery. The study was conducted at Saenamina Fish Farm, Bogor, using a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments: Tubifex sp. silkworms (CS), Chironomus sp. larval bloodworms (CB), Lumbricus rubellus earthworms (CT), and Gambusia affinis cere fish (IC), with three replications for 40 days with 25 fry per treatment sized 2,5 cm, and feed was provided at-satiation. The parameters observed included absolute weight, absolute length, specific growth rate (SGR), survival rate (SR), feed eficiency (FE), feed conversion ratio (FCR), water quality, business analysis and provit analysis. The CT treatment provided the best performance and was significantly different (P<0.05) compared to CS and CB, with an absolute weight of 6.08±1.03 g, an absolute length of 5.59±0.94 cm, an SGR of 23.91±4.18%, an SR of 97.33±2.31%, an FE (47,50±6,54%) and FCR (2,14±0,3). The best results of earthworms were proven to be effective in increasing the growth and survival of tiger catfish fry in the nursery phase.
