Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) are green solvents that have the potential to be used for the extraction of rare earth metals (REEs). This study aims to synthesize guanidine-based DES and evaluate its performance in the separation of REEs. Characterization was carried out using FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, and viscosity tests, while metal concentrations were analyzed by X-ray Fluorescence (XRF). FTIR and Raman results confirmed the formation of DES through hydrogen bond interactions between hydrogen bond acceptors HBA and HBD. guanidine:glycerol DES has the highest viscosity (720 cP), followed by guanidine:lactic acid and guanidine:ethylene glycol (80 cP). The extraction results showed that guanidine:glycerol gave the highest extraction percentage for La (95.89%) and Nd (93.63%), while guanidine:lactic acid was the highest for Ce (93.55%). The results showed that variations in HBD affected the DES characteristics and the extraction efficiency of REEs.
