The National Monument (Monas) is a national historical tourism destination that provides the National History Museum as its main interpretation space, yet the existing non-personal interpretation media in the form of diorama text panels have not fully met the cognitive needs of child visitors. This study aims to identify the existing condition of non-personal interpretation media, analyze elementary school students' perceptions and preferences, and develop a plan for animation-based interpretation media. The research was conducted at the National History Museum, National Monument, in January – April 2026 using a mixed-methods approach. Data were collected through a questionnaire administered to 370 elementary school student respondents using purposive sampling, supported by observation and a literature review. The results indicate that students' perception of the existing interpretation media falls into the good category with an index of 60.74%, while students' preference for animation-based interpretation media shows strong support with an index of 80.1%. Development priorities include strengthening the thematic and relevant aspects of historical message delivery. This study produced a design plan for animation-based interpretation media in the form of a 2D live-action hybrid animation, featuring an educational character named Laras, complete with a storyboard, audio narration, and a storyline developed using the Design Thinking approach.
