dc.description.abstractPenelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi pengaruh jenis dan komposisi filler terhadap sifat optik dan mekanik kertas high bulky. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan campuran pulp LBKP 75:25 dengan target kadar abu 23–24%. Variasi filler meliputi TiO2, CaCO3, bentonit, dan campuran bentonite-CaCO3. Pengujian mencakup distribusi ukuran partikel filler, parameter wet-end dan dry end, opasitas, kekuatan mekanik, serta ketahanan air. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis dan komposisi filler memengaruhi performa kertas. TiO2 menghasilkan opasitas tertinggi, sedangkan CaCO3 memberikan keseimbangan antara sifat optik dan mekanik. Bentonit mampu meningkatkan retensi dan mendukung struktur bulky kertas, tetapi meningkatkan daya serap air. Formulasi Bentonit 70:30 diperoleh sebagai komposisi terbaik dengan opasitas kering 93,61%, kekuatan tarik 1,555 kN/m, dan combined desirability 0,663. Campuran bentonit dan CaCO3 berpotensi mengurangi penggunaan TiO2 karena mampu menjaga keseimbangan antara opasitas, kekuatan mekanik, dan keterbalan kertas
dc.description.sponsorshipThis study aimed to evaluate the effect of filler type and composition on the optical and mechanical properties of high bulky paper. The research used an LBKP pulp mifxture at a ratio of 75:25 with an ash content target of 23–24%. The filler variations included TiO2, CaCO3, bentonite, bentonite mixtures, and TiO2 mixtures. The tests covered filler particle size distribution, wet-end and dry-end parameters, opacity, mechanical strength, and water resistance. The results showed that filler type and composition affected paper performance. TiO2 produced the highest opacity, while CaCO3 provided a balance between optical and mechanical properties. Bentonite improved filler retention and supported the bulky paper structure, but increased water absorption. The bentonite3 70:30 formulation was identified as the best composition, with a dry opacity of 93.61%, tensile strength of 1.555 kN/m, and combined desirability of 0.663. The bentonite and CaCO3 mixture has potential to reduce TiO2 usage because it can maintain the balance between opacity, mechanical strength, and the bulky structure of high bulky paper.
