Cooking oil serves as a heat transfer medium, but repeated use degrades its quality and poses potential health risks. Used cooking oil could be regenerated through effective and economical adsorption using natural adsorbents. Avocado seeds had potential as adsorbents because they contained lignocellulose (cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin) with active groups and a porous structure capable of binding impurity compounds. This study aims to analyze the effect of avocado seed powder on the quality of used cooking oil based on the parameters of free fatty acids, peroxide value, and total oxidation value. The method used was adsorption with variations in HCl activation concentration and adsorbent mass. The results showed optimal conditions at 2 M HCl and a mass of 4 g, with free fatty acids at 0.6186 % FFA and a peroxide value of 1.8133 meq O2/kg, while the highest reduction in total oxidation was obtained at 3 M HCl and a mass of 4 g, with a Totox value of 12.39. These results indicate that avocado seed adsorbent effectively improves the quality of used cooking oil.
