      Abstract

Improving the performance of photoelectrochemical solar cell components requires materials with efficient light absorption as well as effective charge separation and transport. This study aimed to fabricate a SnO2/PbS QDs/CuI heterostructure and evaluate its photoelectrochemical response. SnO2 and PbS QDs layers were fabricated using the Chemical Bath Deposition method, while the CuI layer was deposited by spin coating. Characterization was carried out using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis spectroscopy, and photoelectrochemical measurements through current density–voltage characterization under dark and illuminated conditions. The results showed that SnO2 exhibited a rutile tetragonal crystal structure, whereas PbS QDs possessed a face-centered cubic crystal structure. The band gap energies of SnO2, PbS QDs, and CuI were 3.29 eV, 1.83 eV, and 3.01 eV, respectively. The SnO2/PbS QDs/CuI heterostructure exhibited higher absorbance than each individual layer and generated higher current density under illumination than under dark conditions. These findings indicate that the fabricated heterostructure exhibits a photoelectrochemical response and has potential for further development as a photoelectrochemical solar cell component.
