Oryctes rhinoceros is one of the major pests of oil palm, causing damage that reduces plant growth and productivity. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of pheromone traps and barrier nets as monitoring methods for O. rhinoceros populations. The study was conducted over 30 days with observations every three days. The observed variables included the number of adults captured, cumulative catches, and trapping efficiency based on catch per trap (CPT) and catch per trap per day (CTD). Differences between the two monitoring methods were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test. Pheromone trap captured more adults than boxtrap, with cumulative catches of 2,221 and 564 individuals, respectively. The Mann–Whitney test showed a significant difference between the two methods (p < 0.001). Barrier nets also produced higher CPT and CTD values than pheromone traps. These findings indicate that barrier nets were more effective than pheromone traps for monitoring O. rhinoceros populations under the conditions of this study.
