      Abstract

Batavia's historical heritage in the Jakarta Old Town area has not been optimally utilized in tourism interpretation programs. This study identified interpretation subjects, facilities, and visitor characteristics, perceptions, interests, and needs as the basis for designing an interpretation program and media. Data were collected through observation, interviews, literature review, and Likert-scale questionnaires with 400 Free Guided Walking Tour participants, then analyzed descriptively. The study identified 82 historical objects across five control zones, comprising 46 objects inside the wall (intramuros) and 36 outside the wall (extramuros), and ten interpretation facilities that were adequate in the Core Zone but declined outward. Visitor perceptions ranged from Agree to Strongly Agree, interests were Strongly Interested, and needs were Strongly Needed. The outputs were two designed walking tour routes and two interpretation booklet prototypes that enrich historical tourism and support conservation of the area.
