Paraquat dichloride is a non-selective contact herbicide that has the potential to leave residues in food commodities, including cassava. This study was conducted to develop an analytical method based on SNI 2885:2018 using UV-Vis spectrophotometry for the determination of paraquat residues in cassava tubers. The samples were extracted using a methanol:0.1 M HCl mixture (1:1), reacted with 1% (w/v) sodium dithionite, and analyzed at a wavelength of 600 nm. Method validation was performed by evaluating linearity, LOD, LOQ, accuracy, precision, and the effect of sample volume modification. The results demonstrated that the developed method fulfilled the validation criteria and was suitable for the determination of paraquat residues. Paraquat residues in market cassava samples were found to be 0.4405 ppm, exceeding the maximum residue limit of 0.05 ppm. Therefore, the developed method was validated and considered suitable for the analysis of paraquat residues in cassava tubers.
