Abstract
DIMAS ADITYA IKHSAN.
DIMAS ADITYA IKHSAN. Effectiveness of Pheromone Age on the Capture of Oryctes rhinoceros Using Pheromone Traps at PT Brahma Binabakti. Supervised by WANDA RUSSIANZI.
The rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros) is a major pest in oil palm plantations that reduces plant growth and productivity. Pheromone traps are widely used for its control, but their effectiveness declines as pheromone age increases. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of pheromone age on the capture effectiveness of O. rhinoceros. The research was conducted from October to December 2025 at PT Brahma Binabakti Karet, Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province. A field experiment was conducted using two treatments: pheromones replaced every three weeks and pheromones used continuously for five weeks. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, ANOVA, and Tukey's test at a 5% significance level. Replacing pheromones every three weeks captured 380 beetles, which was 60.3% higher than the five-week treatment (237 beetles). ANOVA indicated that pheromone age significantly affected beetle captures (p<0.05). Therefore, replacing pheromones every three weeks is recommended to maintain trap effectiveness.
