      Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a strategic food crop in Indonesia. Still, its production is constrained by the rice bug, Leptocorisa oratorius (F.), which damages rice grains during the milk stage by sucking grain fluids. This study evaluated the effects of different insecticide treatments on the development, population abundance, and attack intensity of L. oratorius, and its natural enemies. The experiment was conducted in a ± 900 m² rice field using a randomized block design (RBD) with four treatments applications and six replications. Treatments included a synthetic insecticide containing chlorantraniliprole, a bioinsecticide containing Bacillus thuringiensis and Serratia marcescens, a neem extract-based insecticide, and an untreated (control). Adult L. oratorius first appeared at 46 days after planting in all applications and remained the dominant developmental stage, whereas pre-adult stages were relatively scarce throughout the observation period. Population abundance tended to be higher in the control plots than in insecticide application plots. Insecticide applications had no significant effect on predatory spiders, except the family Tetragnathidae at 8 weeks after planting, and the parasitoid Gryon nixoni remained present in all treatments. Insecticide applications also had no significant effect on the attack intensity of L. oratorius or rice production.
