      Abstract

The INA Agro mobile application was developed as a spatially enabled platform to support land suitability decision-making for horticultural and major food crop commodities. Although the application achieved favorable usability based on the Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ), Concurrent Think-Aloud (CTA) testing identified interface issues, including unclear system messages, insufficient feedback, confusing navigation, a cumbersome location input workflow, and difficulties in drawing land polygons. This study aimed to redesign the application's user interface using Galitz's Interface Design Process, adapted to 11 stages and tailored specifically for the mobile context, covering activities from user characteristics mapping to high-fidelity prototype implementation. The prototype was evaluated using the Heuristic Evaluation Checklist (HEC) by five evaluators, comprising two faculty members specializing in Software Engineering and Information Science (SEIS) and three Computer Science students from Bogor Agricultural University. This evaluation represented an initial expert review and therefore excluded end-user usability testing. The redesigned prototype satisfied most usability principles, achieving a compliance rate of 96.82% based on the HEC evaluation. The evaluation also identified four minor usability defects, which informed subsequent interface refinements. Overall, the redesign produced a more comprehensible interface, reduced the likelihood of user errors, and better accommodated users with varying levels of experience.
