NATHAN PRAYOGA.
NATHAN PRAYOGA. Population Dynamics of Fire Caterpillars on Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) in Refugia and Non-Refugia Blocks at Adolina Estate, PTPN IV Regional 2. Supervised by SOFYAN ZAMAN.
The results showed that the caterpillar species found were Parasa lepida and Susica malayana, both belonging to the family Limacodidae. The caterpillar population in the refugia plot was lower than that in the non-refugia plot. The Mann-Whitney U test results showed a significant difference between the two treatments on the caterpillar population. The attack intensity in the refugia block was also lower compared to the block without refugia. The lower caterpillar population in the refugia plot was presumed to be associated with the presence of Turnera ulmifolia, which serves as a food source and habitat for natural enemies. Therefore, Turnera ulmifolia has the potential to be utilized as a component of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for environmentally friendly control of caterpillar pests in oil palm plantations.
