      Abstract

The waxy crude oil found in the oil fields of Riau Province has a specific gravity of 0.90, an API gravity of 25.69°, and a CII of 5.34, with a dominant saturated fraction (73.08%) that triggers wax crystallization. This study evaluated the effectiveness of ten pour point depressant (PPD) candidates (PPD A–J) at concentrations ranging from 500 to 100.000 ppm. The results indicated that PPD G, a polycarbonate-based depressant at 2000 ppm, was the most effective, lowering the pour point from 42 °C to 36 °C. Rheological test results also showed a decrease in viscosity from 2070.1 to 1639.3 cP, and in shear stress from 21.4 to 16.7 Pa. ATR-FTIR characterization (wavenumber shift from 2918 to 2920 cm?¹), XRD (crystal size decreased from 54.6 to 44.2 nm), and STA (mass loss decreased from 84.11% to 78.70%) confirmed the effectiveness of PPD G through the mechanisms of adsorption, co-crystallization, and steric hindrance.
