      Evaluation of the Antipyretic Potential of Leek (Allium ampeloprasum) Infusion

      Abstract
      Fever is a physiological condition or response to infection or inflammation characterized by an increase in body temperature. Paracetamol is the most common antipyretic but has adverse effects, prompting interest in herbal alternatives. Leeks possess various health benefits, yet antipyretic studies remain limited. This study investigates the presence of secondary metabolites of leek infusion and evaluates the antipyretic effect of leek infusion in rats (Rattus norvegicus). Methods included phytochemical screening and antipyretic in vivo testing, with fever induced by 5% peptone. Treatment groups received aquadest, paracetamol, and leek infusions at 10%, 20%, and 40% concentrations (2 mL each). Rectal temperatures were measured at 0, 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 minutes, and analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn’s post-hoc tests. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of saponins. Paracetamol and all leek concentrations reduced fever, with 20% infusion as the most effective. In conclusion, leek infusion demonstrates antipyretic activity in rats, with 20% concentration proving most effective.
       
      Demam merupakan respons fisiologis terhadap infeksi atau inflamasi yang ditandai dengan peningkatan suhu tubuh. Parasetamol merupakan antipiretik yang paling umum digunakan, namun memiliki efek samping sehingga perlu dilakukan pencarian alternatif antipiretik berbahan herbal. Daun bawang memiliki berbagai manfaat kesehatan, tetapi penelitian mengenai aktivitas antipiretiknya masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi metabolit sekunder infusa daun bawang serta mengevaluasi efek antipiretik infusa daun bawang pada tikus (Rattus norvegicus). Metode penelitian meliputi uji fitokimia dan uji in vivo antipiretik, dengan induksi demam menggunakan peptone 5%. Kelompok perlakuan diberikan akuades, parasetamol, dan infusa daun bawang dengan konsentrasi 10%, 20%, dan 40% (masing-masing 2 mL). Suhu rektal diukur pada menit ke-0, 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, dan 180, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji Kruskal–Wallis dan uji lanjut Dunn. Hasil analisis fitokimia menunjukkan adanya senyawa saponin. Seluruh konsentrasi infusa daun bawang maupun parasetamol mampu menurunkan suhu tubuh, dengan infusa konsentrasi 20% yang menunjukkan penurunan suhu yang paling besar. Kesimpulannya, infusa daun bawang memiliki aktivitas antipiretik pada tikus, dengan konsentrasi 20% sebagai konsentrasi yang paling efektif.
