      Abstract

Addressing climate change as a multidimensional challenge requires the development of adaptive capacity supported by participatory learning to strengthen decision-making in climate governance. Climate Change Education (CCE) plays a key role in fostering this capacity through interactive and contextual learning experiences. Furthermore, advances in education and the dynamics of modern society require learning approaches that are contextual, constructivist, transformative, and collaborative, enabling multiple agencies and nature to engage in addressing challenges within socio-ecological systems. This study aimed to design People of Hope, a board game based on climate governance, as a medium for Climate Change Education in climate change adaptation and mitigation learning. The study employed the ADDIE instructional design model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate), including needs analysis, board game benchmarking, content development based on the Socio-Ecological System (SES) framework using the Cross-Impact Balance (CIB) method, prototype development through a theme-driven design approach, and usability evaluation using the System Usability Scale (SUS). The resulting board game represents simulation of relationships among stakeholders, governance, resources, and adaptation and mitigation actions within a socio-ecological system. Usability testing involving 36 playtesters produced an average SUS score of 75.6, categorized as Good (Grade B), indicating good usability. People of Hope has the potential to support Climate Change Education by providing an interactive, contextual, and collaborative simulation that enhances learners' understanding, decision-making skills, and adaptive capacity in addressing climate change.
