Indonesia is highly prone to earthquakes and tsunamis, making effective disaster risk communication essential to enhance public understanding and preparedness. As the institution responsible for disseminating disaster-related information, BMKG utilizes animated videos as an accessible educational medium for diverse audiences. This study aims to analyze the dissemination process and the presentation of risk communication messages in BMKG’s animated videos. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with BMKG representatives and members of the public, and analyzed using Covello and Sandman’s (2001) risk communication theory and Ordóñez and Serrat’s (2017) dissemination model. The findings indicate that BMKG’s animated videos effectively integrate elements of source, content, context, channel, and user through simple, solution-oriented messaging, thereby enhancing public understanding and trust. Although the videos are able to balance hazard information with public emotional responses, evaluation of long-term behavioral change remains limited.
