THAUFIK HIDAYAT TANJUNG.

Wild banana weed (Musa sp.) is difficult to control in immature oil palm plantations. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of application methods and metsulfuron-methyl concentrations on phytotoxicity and mortality time. The experiment used a randomized block design with a split-plot arrangement and three replications. The main plot was application method, consisting of spraying and bamboo implantation, while the subplot was herbicide concentration: 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5 ml/l. The results showed that the bamboo implantation method with 12.5 ml/l concentration produced the fastest mortality time at 8.68 days after application. The optimum concentration to achieve mortality at 15 days after application was 11.00 ml/l for spraying and 7.35 ml/l for bamboo implantation. Therefore, bamboo implantation was more effective than spraying in controlling wild banana weed.
