      Abstract
Fever is a common response to infection and inflammation that may require treatment, but conventional antipyretics such as acetaminophen and NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) can cause adverse effects, highlighting the need for safer alternatives. This study aimed to evaluate the antipyretic activity of Ji Xue Teng (Spatholobus suberectus) extract and identify its phytochemical components using a rat model. A randomized controlled experimental design was conducted using 20 male White rats (Rattus norvegicus), which were randomly divided into five groups (4 rats per group): healthy control, negative control, positive control (paracetamol), low-dose Ji Xue Teng extract (100 mg/kg BW), and high-dose Ji Xue Teng extract (200 mg/kg BW). Fever was induced using 5% peptone, and rectal temperature was measured over 180 minutes. Qualitative phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and steroids. The results showed that the low-dose group produced a reduction in temperature (36.80° C), closer to normal compared to the high-dose (37.20°C) and positive control (37.30°C). Statistical analysis (ANOVA with Tukey test) indicated significant differences between the healthy group and all treatment groups (p < 0.05), but no significant differences among treatments. In conclusion, Ji Xue Teng extract demonstrates significant antipyretic potential, with the low dose being the most effective, suggesting its development as a safer natural alternative to conventional antipyretic drugs.
