dc.description.abstractPengukuran konsentrasi alkohol sangat penting di berbagai industri, namun metode konvensional yang biasa dipakai untuk mendeteksi alkohol biasanya memerlukan biaya tinggi, waktu analisis yang lama, dan kurang praktis. Penggunaan serat optik berbasis gelombang evanescent menawarkan solusi alternatif untuk pengukuran yang ekonomis dan respon yang cepat. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang sistem sensor serat optik berbasis gelombang evanescent untuk mendeteksi konsentrasi alkohol. Metode eksperimen dilakukan dengan memvariasikan panjang kupasan cladding serat optik sebesar 1 cm, 2 cm, 3 cm, dan 4 cm. Pengujian dilakukan pada rentang konsentrasi alkohol 0%-3,5% dengan mengukur intensitas daya keluaran. Performa sensor dilihat dari nilai sensitivitas, limit of detection (LOD), dan waktu respon. Hasil penelitian menunjukan peningkatan panjang kupasan berbanding lurus dengan kenaikan sensitivitas. Masing-masing bernilai (4,63, 6,28, 8,21, 8,98) nW/%. Optimasi panjang kupasan sangat krusial, dimana pada penelitian ini, panjang kupasan 3 cm memberikan kinerja paling optimal dengan nilai sensitivitas yang tidak jauh berbeda dengan 4 cm, nilai LOD terendah sebesar 0,55%, dan rata-rata waktu respon 5,24 detik.
dc.description.abstractMeasuring alcohol concentration is crucial in various industries, but conventional methods for detecting alcohol are typically expensive, require long analysis times, and are impractical. The use of evanescent wave-based optical fiber offers an alternative solution for economical measurement and fast response. This study aimed to design an evanescent wave-based fiber optic sensor system to detect alcohol concentration. The experimental method used varying the strip length of the optical fiber cladding to 1 cm, 2 cm, 3 cm, and 4 cm. Testing was conducted over a range of alcohol concentrations from 0% to 3.5% by measuring the output power intensity. Sensor performance was assessed by sensitivity, limit of detection (LOD), and response time. The results showed that increasing strip length was directly proportional to the increase in sensitivity. Each has a value of (4.63, 6.28, 8.21, 8.98) nW/%. Optimization of the strip length is crucial, where in this study, a strip length of 3 cm provides the most optimal performance with a sensitivity value that is not much different from 4 cm, the lowest LOD value of 0.55%, and an average response time of 5.24 seconds.
