The influence of Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) on seasonal rainfall variability in Sulawesi was analyzed using 368 observation points daily rainfall data from PSDA-PUPR and Real-time Multivariate MJO (RMM) index data during active MJO conditions. The results show that temporally, the MJO increases rainfall anomalies and modulates rainfall variability differently in each season, with the strongest influence occurring during NDJF and NDJFM when the convective center is in phases 3-5. During MAM and MAMJJ, positive rainfall anomalies are generally dominant in phases 2-4, while during JJA, MJJA, and SON the MJO response becomes weaker and more localized due to the influence of the east monsoon and more stable atmospheric conditions. Spatially, the response of rainfall to the MJO is strongly influenced by regional climatological characteristics, including monsoonal, equatorial, and local rainfall patterns across Sulawesi. Orographic effects and local atmospheric processes such as land-sea circulation and diurnal convection also contribute to the spatial differences in rainfall anomalies between mountainous, coastal, and inland regions. These results indicate that the interaction between large-scale atmospheric variability and local climatic factors plays an important role in modulating rainfall variability over Sulawesi.
