      Abstract

Liver dysfunction is a health disorder that can impair metabolic, detoxification, and excretory functions in companion animals. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of liver dysfunction at Gustavet Veterinary Clinic during the January–June 2024 period using a period prevalence approach. The results showed that the prevalence of liver dysfunction in dogs and cats was 8.69% (26 out of 299 patients), with a prevalence of 9.38% (12 out of 128 patients) in dogs and 8.19% (14 out of 171 patients) in cats. Based on Body Condition Score (BCS), cases in both species were most frequently observed in animals with thin and normal body conditions. The age distribution indicated that liver dysfunction was predominantly found in senior and mature adult dogs, whereas in cats, cases were more commonly observed in the young adult and mature adult age groups. Clinical signs varied among patients, with anorexia being the most frequently observed manifestation. Hematological and blood chemistry examinations revealed alterations in erythrocyte, hemoglobin, and leukocyte parameters, as well as increased liver enzyme levels, indicating the presence of liver dysfunction in affected patients.
