      Abstract
      Pandan rasau (Pandanus helicopus) merupakan tumbuhan endemik yang berpotensi sebagai sumber bahan baku untuk kemasan pulp cetak karena perannya sebagai komponen alami ekosistem rawa dan sungai namun, keberadaan pandan rasau dapat menimbulkan masalah lingkungan seperti menghambat akses transportasi air dan menyebabkan tumpukan limbah rasau di perairan. Di sisi lain, serat rasau memiliki potensi sebagai sumber serat kemasan pulp cetakan baik dari batang maupun daunnya. Analisis karakteristik serat batang dan daun rasau pada penelitian ini mengevaluasi pengaruh komposisi bahan baku campuran untuk menemukan kondisi yang optimal. Morfologi serat, pemasakan pulp dengan metode SCWE, analisis komponen kimia, dan pulp cetak skala laboratorium diproduksi untuk mengevaluasi kinerja kekuatannya. Secara umum, serat daun menunjukkan kekuatan sedang karena memiliki sifat hidrofilik yang rendah sehingga menghasilkan struktur sel daun yang lebih padat dan halus, sedangkan serat batang memiliki kerapatan yang lebih tinggi sehingga sifat hidrofilik dan kepadatan volumenya lebih tinggi daripada daun, meskipun perbandingan kombinasi pandan dan rasau menunjukkan struktur sel yang seimbang, tetapi bahan batang menghasilkan kekuatan yang lebih tinggi daripada perbandingan 1:1 karena memiliki serat yang lebih panjang dibandingkan kombinasi bahan baku yang belum terikat serat secara optimal oleh karena itu, kemasan pulp yang diproduksi dari setiap komposisi daun dan batang pandan rasau memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangannya masing-masing sehingga dapat menyesuaikan kebutuhan penggunaan desain kemasan pulp. Pandan rasau (Pandanus helicopus) is an endemic plant with potential as a raw material source for printing pulp packaging due to its role as a natural component of wetland and river ecosystems however, the presence of pandanus can cause environmental problems such as obstructing water transportation and leading to the accumulation of pandanus waste in waterways. On the other hand, pandanus fibers have potential as a source of fiber for printing pulp packaging, derived from both its stems and leaves. The analysis of the fiber characteristics of the stems and leaves of rasau in this study evaluated the effect of the composition of the raw material mixture to identify the optimal conditions. Fiber morphology, pulp cooking using the SCWE method, and chemical composition were analyzed, and laboratory-scale printing pulp was produced to evaluate strength performance. Generally, leaf fibers exhibit moderate strength due to their low hydrophilicity, resulting in a denser and finer leaf cell structure, whereas stem fibers possess relatively high strength due to their hydrophilicity and higher volumetric density compared to leaves. Although the combination of pandan and rasau showed a balanced cell structure, the stem material produced higher strength than the 1:1 ratio because it contains longer fibers compared to the raw material combination where the fibers were not optimally bound therefore, the pulp packaging produced from each pandan rasau leaf and steam composition has its own advantages and disadvantages allowing for adaptation to the specific requirements of pulp packaging design.
