Pengelolaan Kesejahteraan dan Persepsi Masyarakat terhadap Gajah Sumatera serta Kontribusi Ekonomi dari Pusat Informasi Konservasi Gajah Tebo, Jambi

Abstract

Gajah sumatera salah satu spesies mamalia darat terbesar, yang dilindungi keberadaannya dengan status satwa kritis dari IUCN. Hutan merupakan habitat berperan penting bagi keberlangsungan hidup gajah. Ketidaksesuaian habitat meningkatkan risiko penurunan populasi yang menyebabkan kepunahan. Populasi gajah sumatera mengalami penurunan signifikan akibat kerusakan habitat, perburuan liar, dan konflik manusia dengan gajah, sehingga diperlukan upaya konservasi yang mendukung kesejahteraan satwa. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengukur pengelolaan kesejahteraan gajah di PIKG Tebo, mengkaji persepsi masyarakat terhadap keberadaan gajah dan PIKG Tebo, serta kontribusi ekonomi PIKG Tebo. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi lapang, wawancara dan survei persepsi masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengelolaan kesejahteraan gajah di PIKG Tebo termasuk dalam kategori “Baik” berdasarkan penilaian peneliti dan pengelola. Persepsi masyarakat positif terhadap keberadaan gajah dan PIKG Tebo, meskipun terdapat perbedaan persepsi di tengah masyarakat. Persepsi juga diperoleh melalui pemanfaatan media sosial dengan respon “Positif”. Kontribusi PIKG Tebo dalam ekonomi masyarakat sekitar melalui penyerapan tenaga kerja dan peluang usaha.

The Sumatran elephant is one of the largest land mammal species, protected as a critically endangered species by the IUCN. Forests play a crucial role as their habitat for survival. Habitat mismatch increases the risk of population decline, which can lead to extinction. The Sumatran elephant population has significantly decreased due to habitat destruction, poaching, and human-elephant conflicts, so conservation efforts that support animal welfare are needed. This study aims to measure the management of elephant welfare at PIKG Tebo, review public perceptions of elephants and PIKG Tebo, and examine the economic contributions of PIKG Tebo. Data was collected through field observations, interviews, and public perception surveys. The research results show that the management of elephant welfare at PIKG Tebo is considered 'Good' based on assessments from researchers and managers. Public perception is positive towards the presence of elephants and PIKG Tebo, although there are some differences in perception among the community. Perception was also gathered through social media, with responses being 'Positive.' PIKG Tebo contributes to the local economy by creating jobs and business opportunities
