      Abstract

Climate change causes ecosystem degradation, which leads to a decline in biodiversity, including butterflies as bioindicators. This study aims to analyze changes in butterfly diversity and its relationship with environmental factors and climate anomalies in the Gunung Walat University Forest (GWUF) from 2012 to 2025. Data were collected using the Pollard transect method across six habitat types. Analyses included diversity indices, the Hutcheson t-test, and PCA biplots. Results showed an increase in local temperature from 23.6°C to >24.5°C, accompanied by fluctuations in extreme rainfall. Overall, butterfly diversity in the GWUF decreased in 2025 compared to 2012. Significant declines occurred in the Ecotone, Puspa Stands, Pine Stands, and Mixed Stands, while the Riparian and Agathis Stands remained relatively stable. These findings indicate that humidity, canopy cover, water availability, and food sources play a crucial role in sustaining butterfly communities, therefore adaptive vegetation management is necessary to maintain the microclimate stability of conservation areas.
