      Abstract
      Daun rasau (Pandanus helicopus) merupakan tumbuhan liar endemik yang sering mengganggu aliran sungai, tetapi memiliki kandungan serat yang berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku molded pulp packaging. Neutral Sulfite Semi Chemical (NSSC) dan Subcritical Water Extraction (SCWE) digunakan sebagai alternatif pulping ramah lingkungan untuk mengetahui karakteristik pulp yang dihasilkan serta pengaruhnya terhadap pembuatan molded pulp. Analisis komponen kimia dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah proses pulping. Pulp yang diperoleh selanjutnya mengalami proses refining dan dianalisis dimensi seratnya untuk mengevaluasi perubahan karakteristik serat akibat perlakuan. Molded pulp kemudian dibentuk menggunakan alat vakum skala laboratorium dan diuji sifat fisik, hidrofobisitas, serta mekanisnya. NSSC menghasilkan delignifikasi yang lebih efektif dengan kandungan lignin 8,11%, tensile index 19,30 Nm/g, dan warna kemasan yang lebih terang, meskipun rendemennya lebih rendah (52,00%). Sebaliknya, SCWE menghasilkan rendemen yang lebih tinggi (77,63%) serta hidrofobisitas yang lebih baik, tetapi memiliki kandungan lignin yang lebih tinggi (42,36%) dan tensile index yang lebih rendah (2,01 Nm/g). NSSC lebih sesuai untuk aplikasi yang memerlukan kekuatan mekanik, sedangkan SCWE berpotensi untuk kemasan tahan air dengan proses yang lebih ramah lingkungan.
       
      Rasau leaves (Pandanus helicopus) are an endemic wild plant that often obstructs river flow but contain high fiber content, making them a potential raw material for molded pulp packaging. Neutral Sulfite Semi-Chemical (NSSC) and Subcritical Water Extraction (SCWE) were used as environmentally friendly pulping methods to investigate pulp characteristics and their effects on molded pulp production. Chemical composition was analyzed before and after pulping. The resulting pulp was refined, and its fiber dimensions were measured to evaluate changes in fiber characteristics. Molded pulp products were then formed using a laboratory-scale vacuum molding system and evaluated for their physical, hydrophobic, and mechanical properties. NSSC achieved more effective delignification, resulting in a lignin content of 8.11%, a tensile index of 19.30 Nm/g, and a lighter product color, although its yield was lower (52.00%). In contrast, SCWE produced a higher yield (77.63%) and better hydrophobicity but retained higher lignin content (42.36%) and exhibited a lower tensile index (2.01 Nm/g). NSSC was more suitable for applications requiring high mechanical strength, whereas SCWE showed potential for water-resistant packaging with a more environmentally friendly process.
