      Abstract

Nile tilapia nursery is highly depends on water quality; its decline can trigger stress, inhibit growth, and cause mortality. This study aimed to determine the effect of water hyacinth and giant salvinia as phytoremediators on water quality in tilapia nursery systems and to identify the most effective plant dosage. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications: control (K), water hyacinth at 4.5 g L?¹ (EG 4.5) and 9 g L?¹ (EG 9), and giant salvinia coverage of 50% (KB 50) and 80% (KB 80). The results showed that phytoremediation significantly improved water quality compared to the control. The EG 9 treatment produced the best results with TAN at 0.31±0.01 mg L?¹, nitrite 0.13±0.01 mg L?¹, nitrate 1.44±0.09 mg L?¹, and phosphate 0.31±0.00 mg L?¹. EG 9 also resulted in a SGR of 3.88±0.78%, AWG of 6.39±2.04 g, FCR of 0.93±0.30, and a survival rate of 88.89±3.85%. The use of water hyacinth at 9 g L?¹ was the most effective treatment for improving water quality and supporting tilapia growth.
