      Abstract

Killifish guentheri red (Nothobranchius guentheri) is a freshwater ornamental fish with high economic value due to the more attractive coloration of males compared to females. This study aimed to evaluate the application of 17a-methyltestosterone (MT) on male percentage, survival rate, and abnormality rate. The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications, namely H0 (without hormone), H1 (5 mg L-1), H2 (10 mg L-1), and H3 (15 mg L-1) applied through larval immersion for 6 hours. The results showed that MT administration had a significant effect (P<0,05) on male percentage and survival rate, but no significant effect (P>0,05) on abnormality percentage. The highest percentage of male fish was obtained in treatment H2 at 91,83±8,61% and the highest survival rate was observed in H0 at 76,33±2,36%. Abnormalities were only found in H3 at 0,33±0,29%. The dose of 10 mg L-1 was the most effective in increasing the percentage of male fish.
