      Abstract

Dhole (Cuon alpinus) is a social carnivore that plays a role as an apex predator in maintaining tropical forest ecosystem balance. This study aims to determined the relative abundance and population density and analyze the habitat preference of dholes in Ujung Kulon National Park (UKNP). The method used in this study include processing camera trap data from wet season (17 February-1 June 2024) and dry season (17 July-1 November 2024) using Relative Abundance Index, N-Mixture Model, and Neu Habitat Preference Index. Results showed an increase in RAI from 0,30 in wet season to 0,53 in dry season. Estimated population density was 30,74 individuals/100 km² in wet season and 32,52 individuals/100 km² in dry season. Habitat preference analysis showed that dholes tend to used primary forest (w = 1,20), secondary forest (w = 1,06), and shrubland (w = 1,08), while avoiding mangrove forest, swamp forest, grassland, and open land. These results indicate that distribution and activity of dhole are influenced by season and prey availability.
