      Abstract

The severe impact of Tropical Cyclone Seroja in East Nusa Tenggara has drawn national attention. One of the affected areas is East Sumba. This study aims to map the vulnerability of East Sumba to tropical cyclones by utilizing cyclone track data and meteorological parameters such as wind speed, rainfall, and storm wave height, employing the Normalized Cyclone Vulnerability Index (NCVI) method. The objective is to identify regions within East Sumba that are susceptible to tropical cyclone hazards. The results indicate that the level of vulnerability in East Sumba ranges from low to high. The southern region of East Sumba is predominantly characterized by moderate to high vulnerability levels. Wulaweijelu District exhibits the highest vulnerability, primarily due to the influence of strong winds and high waves. Meanwhile, Kota Waingapu also demonstrates a high level of vulnerability, largely attributed to its dense population. This study has a limitation in the weighting process, as PCA relies heavily on data variability and pays insufficient attention to conceptual aspects. Therefore, an alternative approach is required to support the decision-making process.
