      Abstract

The nilem fish Osteochilus vittatus is a freshwater aquaculture commodity with high economic value. Intensive feed usage in aquaculture leads to increased nitrogen waste due to the accumulation of feces and uneaten feed. Phytoremediation using aquatic plants such as azolla offers an alternative solution for reducing organic matter in the water. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of azolla as a phytoremediation agent in nilem fish cultivation. The research was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications, applying different densities of azolla AM0 (0 g m?²), AM150 (150 g m?²), AM250 (250 g m?²), and AM350 (350 g m?²). Nilem seeds measuring 4-5 cm were kept in a 75 L aquarium with a density of 1 fish L-1. The results showed that azolla was effective as a phytoremediation agent in nilem fish farming. Treatment AM150 yielded the most optimal results in reducing pollutant parameter concentrations and supporting better environmental conditions for the growth and survival of nilem fish in the aquaculture system.
