      Abstract

The skin functions as the primary protector against the environment, which is vulnerable to various injuries, so it requires wound dressing to accelerate healing. This study aims to fabricate borate-based bioactive glass microfiber wound dressing (BG) using the electrospinning method with various concentrations. The results showed that microfibers were successfully formed without altering the natural phase structure of BG, as indicated by the broad peaks in the X-ray diffraction pattern and SEM images, which showed micro-sized fibres. However, the addition of BG concentration affected the morphology of the microfibers, particularly in the presence of beads, resulting in a decrease in tensile strength. The results of the degradation test also demonstrated the ability of microfibers to degrade, as indicated by the increasing percentage of mass loss and the rate of microfiber degradation over the observation time.
