      Abstract

Nilem fish Ostheochilus vittatus is a local fish that has potential to be developed, but is constrained by the availability of seeds all the time. Seed availability is determined by the success rate of egg hatching. An effort to overcome this issues is by determining the optimal egg stocking density. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal egg density level for egg hatchability, larval survival, and fry survival of nilem fish. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatment and four replicates including 10 eggs/L (KP10), 20 eggs/L (KP20), 25 eggs/L (KP25), and 30 eggs/L (KP30). The result showed that the KP20 treatment yielded the best result on larval survival of 80,6±0,96%. The application of different egg stocking densities with a density of 20 eggs/L gave optimal result on the survival of nilem larvae.
