      Abstract

The productivity and egg quality of laying hens can be affected by the microclimate within poultry housing. The utilization of curtains can serve as an effective measure to control the microclimate in an open house system. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of utilizing curtains for microclimate control and its influence on egg quality. The study was conducted from September 19 to October 16 2024 at CV Global Buwana Farm. The study used a sample of 20 laying hens divided into two groups, 10 hens were placed in a housing system with curtains, while the other 10 hens were kept without curtains. The primary parameters measured included the microclimate within the housing and egg quality. The microclimate consisted of temperature, humidity, and light intensity. The result showed a p-value (<0,001) < 0,05 indicating that utilization of curtains in the open house system significantly decreased light intensity. Light intensity was found to have a significant impact on egg quality, however the quality grades between the curtain and non curtain groups remained within the same classification according to SNI 2023 and USDA 2000 standards.
