      Abstract

Psittacine are a group of birds that are popular as pets. Psittacine are susceptible to various bacterial diseases, one of which is caused by gram negative bacteria. One of the challenges in treating infections in Psittacine birds is the emergence of antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance is a condition in which antibiotics are no longer able to kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria. This study aims to identify gram negative bacteria present in 11 fecal samples of Psittacine from Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta, as well as to determine the presence of antibiotics resistant of these bacteria. In this study, bacteria were isolated using MacConkey Agar media, then Gram staining and biochemical tests for bacterial identification. Antibiotic resistance testing was conducted using the Kirby-Bauer method against 7 antibiotics. The results of bacterial identification showed the presence of Klebsiella sp., Proteus mirabilis, and Escherichia coli in the fecal samples of Psittacine from TMII. There is resistance to the antibiotics nalidixic acid, doxycycline, tetracycline, gentamicin, erythromycin, cefotaxime, and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole shows the lowest level of antibiotic resistance.
