| dc.description.abstract | Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan hama dalam sektor pertanian, yang mengancam hasil panen dan ketahanan pangan. Interaksi negatif antara kelelawar pemakan buah dengan tanaman pertanian menjadi tantangan besar bagi petani di Kabupaten Banyuwangi, khususnya pada komoditas jambu biji dan pepaya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis persepsi petani terhadap keberadaan kelelawar di lahan pertanian serta dampak ekologis dan sosialnya dalam mencapai keseimbangan antara produktivitas pertanian dan konservasi kelelawar.
Metode penelitian melibatkan penghitungan kerusakan hasil panen pada tanaman jambu dan pepaya, serta wawancara terhadap 180 petani di tiga kecamatan: Cluring, Purwoharjo, dan Tegaldlimo. Penghitungan dilakukan di lahan dengan dan tanpa pengendalian hama untuk jambu, serta sawah dan kebun untuk pepaya. Observasi intensitas serangan kelelawar dilakukan untuk menilai efektivitas pengendalian. Identifikasi kelelawar juga dilakukan di Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense untuk mengetahui spesies yang ditemukan.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode pengendalian kelelawar pada tanaman jambu terbukti efektif mengurangi kerusakan tanaman, dengan lahan yang menerapkan pengendalian mengalami kerusakan lebih rendah (30-39%) dibandingkan lahan tanpa pengendalian (74-95%). Pada tanaman pepaya, kerusakan antara lahan sawah dan kebun tidak signifikan, meskipun kebun yang lebih dekat dengan habitat kelelawar cenderung lebih sering diserang. Wawancara dengan petani menunjukkan bahwa meskipun pemahaman tentang peran kelelawar dalam ekosistem cukup baik, banyak yang masih menganggap kelelawar sebagai hama dan pembawa penyakit. Hal ini menunjukkan perlunya peningkatan wawasan petani tentang kelelawar serta pemberian manfaat ekonomi untuk mendorong partisipasi mereka dalam pelestarian kelelawar.
Rekomendasi langkah-langkah konservasi kelelawar meliputi pelestarian habitat asli dan penyediaan tempat tinggal kelelawar, serta menjaga koridor ekologis yang menghubungkan habitat alami dengan lahan pertanian. Kolaborasi antara petani, pemerintah, dan masyarakat setempat sangat penting untuk menciptakan keseimbangan antara upaya konservasi kelelawar dan keberlanjutan produksi pertanian. Melalui keterlibatan petani dalam pengambilan keputusan terkait pengelolaan kelelawar dan adopsi metode pengendalian ramah lingkungan, diharapkan pengelolaan kelelawar dapat lebih efektif tanpa mengabaikan kepentingan ekonomi petani dan kelestarian lingkungan | |
| dc.description.abstract | This research was motivated by the issue of pests and other negative interactions of animals in the agricultural sector, which threaten crop yields and food security. The interaction between fruit-eating bats and crops poses a significant challenge in Banyuwangi Regency, where the horticultural sector, particularly the cultivation of red guava and papaya, is rapidly growing. The main objective of this study was to analyze farmers' perceptions of the presence of bats on farms and their ecological and social impacts, aiming to balance agricultural productivity with bat conservation efforts.
The methodology involved calculating yield damage on guava and papaya crops and interviewing 180 farmers in three sub-districts: Cluring, Purwoharjo, and Tegaldlimo. The calculations were conducted on fields with and without pest control for guava, as well as rice fields and orchards for papaya. Observations of bat infestation intensity were also made to assess control effectiveness. Additionally, bat identification was conducted at the Zoologicum Bogoriense Museum, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to determine the bat species found.
The results showed that bat control methods were effective in reducing crop damage on guava plants. Fields with control measures experienced lower damage (30-39%) compared to those without control (74-95%). Strategies such as netting and enhanced lighting effectively minimized damage. For papaya, the difference in damage between rice fields and orchards was not significant, although orchards closer to bat habitats experienced more frequent attacks. Interviews with farmers revealed that while most understand the role of bats in the ecosystem, many still view them as pests and disease carriers. This indicates a need for improving farmers' perspectives by incorporating local experiences and cultural contexts, alongside educational efforts.
Based on the findings, recommendations for bat conservation include preserving their natural habitats and installing bat houses. Maintaining ecological corridors between bat habitats and agricultural land is crucial to allow bats to move without damaging crops. Collaboration among farmers, government, and local communities is essential to balance bat conservation with sustainable agricultural production. Involving farmers in decision-making and adopting environmentally friendly control methods will help make bat management more effective while preserving both farmers' economic interests and environmental sustainability. | |
